Augustin Steininger

Augustin Steininger (born March 15, 1794 in Merzenstein , † August 22, 1875 in Zwettl ) was an Austrian Cistercian abbot.

Life

Augustin Joseph Steininger, who joined Zwettl Abbey , was professor of canon law and history at the theological college of Heiligenkreuz Monastery from 1822 to 1827 , as well as subprior, novice master and pastor in Etzen . As a woodruff, he was elected abbot in 1847. In 1861 and 1869 he was also President of the Austro-Hungarian Cistercian Congregation.

In 1872 he had a collegiate high school built, which began operating in 1874, but appeared superfluous to the state authorities and was dissolved again in 1875.
