Augusto Bonetti
Augusto Bonetti CM (born May 15, 1835 in Murialdo , † August 19, 1904 in Constantinople ) was an Italian clergyman.
Life
Bonetti joined the Lazaristenorden for and received about 1859, the sacrament of Holy Orders .
Pope Leo XIII. appointed him titular bishop of Cardica on May 5, 1885 ; he received his episcopal ordination on July 12 of the same year. On May 6, 1887, he was appointed Apostolic Delegate in the Ottoman Empire and Latin Patriarchal Vicar in Constantinople. At the same time he was named titular archbishop of Palmyra .
In 1897, after the First Zionist Congress, he was called by the Pope to Rome to discuss measures against the Zionist movement and against the seizure of Palestine , especially of the (Christian) holy places, by Jews.
