Auro-3D

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Auro-3D is an immersive 3D audio format that is distributed by the Belgian company Auro Technologies .

history

The concept of Auro-3D was developed in 2005 by Wilfried Van Baelen, the CEO and founder of Galaxy Studios and Auro Technologies. The format was first presented in 2006 at the Audio Engineering Society conference in Paris. The first models included the 9.1 and 10.1 concepts.

At the conference for spatial sound 2010 in Tokyo, the cinema formats 11.1 and 13.1 were presented for the first time. The Auro-Engine and the Creative Tool Suite were also new. In 2011 Auro-3D entered into a partnership with the Belgian screen manufacturer Barco to offer Auro-3D as a complete hardware package. In the same year, the first halls were equipped with the 11.1 system. In January 2012, Lucasfilm- produced Red Tails became the first Hollywood film to be mixed in Auro-3D. The next film to use Auro-3D was the Tamulfilm Vishwaroopam . In December 2012, DreamWorks Animation announced that they would be mixing 15 of their next films in Auro-3D.

At CinemaCon 2013, Barco , DTS and Auro-3D announced that they would work together to develop an open standard for object-based 3D audio systems. This statement was seen as an answer to the request of the cinema operators of the "National Association of Theater Owners" and the "International Union of Cinemas". In September 2013, Auro-3D entered into a partnership with Datasat Digital Entertainment to include the Auro-3D format in the product range for high-end consumers. The Datasat LS10 audio processor was presented at ISE 2014.

technology

The diagram shows the arrangement of the sound layers around the listener.

Auro-3D is built up around three layers of clay. These consist of " Surround Sound " (at head height; consisting of conventional 5.1 or 7.1 ), "Height" ( English height ; are attached at a 30 ° angle to the head) and "Overhead Ceiling" ( English ceiling ; are attached to the room ceiling ). The "Height" layer adds localizable noises to conventional 5.1 as well as a natural sound through reflection . The data for “Height” will be converted into a standard 5.1. Surround PCM carrier stored. Auro-3D then decodes the necessary data for the "Height" channels during playback.

The Auro-3D technology consists of the "Auro-3D Engine" and a Creative Tool Suite. The engine includes both the Auro codec and the Auro-Matic algorithm to mix conventional content into the Auro format. The Creative Tool Suite is a plug-in set that can be used to mix new sounds in Auro-3D. Auro-3D is also compatible with all other 3D audio technologies and can be used for existing production processes.

Audio formats

Auro-3D is available in different versions that have been tailored to the different markets:

Home theater (small rooms) :
