The Šakvice – Hustopeče u Brna railway is a railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as the local line from Auspitz to Auspitz Stadt . It branches off the Břeclav – Brno railway line in Šakvice and leads to Hustopeče ( Auspitz ) in southern Moravia .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

On April 20, 1894, the Moravian-Silesian state advocate Carl Freiherr von Offermann and the landowner and factory owner Victor Ritter von Bauer were grantedthe requested concession to build and operate a standard-gauge local railway from the Auspitz station of the privileged Kaiser Ferdinand's northern line City of Auspitz ”. Part of the concession was the obligation to start construction of the line immediately and to finish it within a year.

The company was called Auspitzer Lokalbahn , Czech: Hustopečská místní dráha (ALB). It was based in Auspitz.

The line was opened on July 18, 1894. The company initially carried out the operation itself. As of April 1, 1900, management was transferred to the Kaiser-Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB). After its nationalization on January 1, 1907, the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) took the place of the KFNB .

In 1911 the unprofitable company became the municipal property of the municipality of Auspitz. From December 15, 1911, the company ran its own operations again under the direction of the city. From 1926 the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) ran the business. After the annexation of the Sudetenland to the German Reich in autumn 1938, the line was now on German territory. The company remained legally unaffected, operations were carried out by the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Wien , until the end of the Second World War .

In 1945 the Auspitzer local railway was nationalized and the line was integrated into the ČSD network.

On January 1, 1993, as a result of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, the line was transferred to the newly founded Czech state railway company České dráhy (ČD). Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

The line is to be completely renewed and electrified by December 2020 for a total of 1,552 million crowns. Part of the project is also the modernization of the branch station Šakvice and the increase of the line speed to 85 km / h. After the work is completed, it is planned to connect passenger trains from Brno to Hustopeče u Brna.

Locomotives

In 1894 the Auspitzer Lokalbahn acquired two double-coupled tank locomotives from Krauss in Linz . The KFNB classified them from 1899 with the numbers 914 and 915 in the class IX . In 1911 another locomotive with similar parameters was procured from the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik . Two of the locomotives were still part of the ČSD in 1925.
