Career

Beginnings (2005-2008)

Dillon started his career in INEX Bandoleros and Legend Cars. From 2006 he started in late model dirtrennen, in the following year he also drove asphalt races. He was promoted to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in 2008 , with a win and second place overall he was Rookie of the Year . He also started in two races of the Xfinity Series in 2008 , which he finished in twenty-sixth and fourth place.

Camping World Truck Series (2009-2011)

At Iowa Speedway, Dillon made his debut in the Camping World Truck Series in 2009. In the same year he was supposed to start in Talladega, but his vehicle failed the technical inspection, so that he was disqualified for the race. He competed completely in the 2010 season, achieving two wins and seven pole positions, and with fifth place overall he was named Rookie of the Year. In 2011 he was able to win two races, with ten top-five results he was before Johnny Sauter champion, he also became the Most Popular Driver selected .

Monster Energy Cup Series and Xfinity Series (from 2011)

In October 2011 Dillon contested his first race in the Cup Series. In November it was announced that Dillon would compete in the Xfinity Series in the 2012 season.

In 2012 he also competed for a race in the Cup Series. In the Xfinity Series he was able to retract his first win in Kentucky , but after the race it was discovered that Dillon's car did not meet the minimum height. He was also able to win the second race of the season in Kentucky. He finished the season in third place, which earned him the Rookie of the Year title.

In 2013 he started in eleven races in the Cup Series, two of which were replacing the injured Tony Stewart . In the Xfinity Series he achieved no win and twenty-two top 10 results, five fewer than last year. Nevertheless, he was able to win the overall standings this season, which is due, among other things, to the fact that many cup drivers who were not entitled to points took part in the races. It was the first championship in one of the three national NASCAR series that was won without a win. He was also only the third driver after Greg Biffle and Johnny Benson to become champion in both the Xfinity and the truck series. Dillon also started three races in the Truck Series, winning in Eldora .

Dillon started his first full season in the Cup Series in 2014 in the number 3 for Richard Childress Racing. He won the pole position of the Daytona 500 , his best race result was a fifth place in Daytona. He reached the twentieth place overall, after Kyle Larson he was the second best rookie. Dillon competed in one Xfinity Series race and eight Truck Series races, one of which he won.

Also in 2015 Dillon drove in the Cup Series, he reached the twenty-first place overall. In the Xfinity Series he won four out of twenty races entered, in the Truck Series one of four.

In 2016 Dillon qualified for the Chase , he reached the fourteenth place overall. Third place in Talladega was his best result. In addition, he was able to win two races of the Xfinity Series.

In 2017 Dillon took his first Cup Series victory in Charlotte .

In 2018 he won the Daytona 500 in the first "overtime", although he had only taken the lead in the final round.
