Lewisville is a city in Forsyth County , North Carolina in the United States . It is located near Winston-Salem .

history

The city was founded in the 1770s when Pennsylvania settlers roamed the country, stopping for Forsyth County. The town was named after one of these settlers, Lewis Laugenour, whose property still stands as it was built.

Today Lewisville is one of the fastest growing cities in Forsyth County. The city now has over 10,000 inhabitants, the last official population census in 2000 showed 8,826 inhabitants.

Demographics

At the last population census in 2000, the city had 8,826 inhabitants, 3,341 households. 2676 families lived in the city. The population density was 125.9 / km². Of the 3,341 households, 40.0% had children under the age of 18. 70.5% of the householders were married couples and 7.4% were women living alone or with a single husband. The average household size was 2.64 people and the average family size was 2.98 people.

26.8% of the population were younger than 18 years, 5.8% between 18 and 24, 31.7% between 25 and 44 and 27.5% between 45 and 64 years old. 8.2% of the population were already 65 or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 women there were 98 men. For every 100 women over the age of 18, 92.6 men. The average income of households was 64,571 US dollars , and the median income for a family 72,250 dollars.
