Austrian World Summit

The Austrian World Summit is a climate protection conference that takes place once a year in Vienna . Since its premiere in June 2017, the initiator Arnold Schwarzenegger and the organizer Monika Langthaler have invited representatives from politics, NGOs and business from all over the world to the Vienna Hofburg to create a broad alliance for climate protection.

The aim is to jointly achieve the Paris climate goals and the UN sustainability goals and to network politics, business and finance through to the UN, NGOs , regions and cities. The event, which is under the patronage of the Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen , will be complemented by numerous topic-related breakout sessions.

The conference is organized by the NGO "The Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative" chaired by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Monika Langthaler and Conyers Davis, the director of the Schwarzenegger Institute.

Participants have already been UN Secretary General António Guterres , climate activist Greta Thunberg , Patricia Espinosa Cantellano (Secretary General of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), Li Yong (Director General of UNIDO ), Maria Neira (Director of WHO ), Kristalina Georgiewa (Managing Director of the IMF) and Scott Joseph Kelly (US astronaut). On October 20, 2019, the conference was awarded the Taurus European Culture Prize.

In 2019, the Austrian World Summit was expanded to include an open air event, the Climate Kirtag , which, as an information and entertainment event, is intended to inspire as many people as possible for the topic of climate protection. In its first edition there were musical performances by Hubert von Goisern , Conchita Wurst and Pizzera & Jaus .
