Avant (Audi)
Today, Avant is the sales name for various station wagons from the Audi brand . The first vehicle to be called Avant was the Audi 100 C2 , which however had a hatchback with a tailgate hinged at the top (liftback).
Audi vehicles offered as Avant
- Mid-range : The Audi 80 was offered as an Avant from the B4 series from spring 1992, the successor model, the Audi A4 , was produced as a station wagon from the start.
- Upper middle class : The Audi 100 of the C2 series was offered as the first model under the name Avant from September 1977. With the introduction of the C4 series in autumn 1991, this model received a conventional hatchback instead of the hatchback previously offered. The successor model Audi A6 was also offered as an Avant in all series.
- The sporty “RS models” RS2 , RS4 and RS6 , which are based on the above-mentioned series, were also offered as Avant. These vehicles were mainly sold as Avant.
- The second series of the Audi 200 based on the Audi 100 was also offered as an Avant from 1984 to 1990.
Combined models from Audi not designated as Avant
- The wagon version of the Audi F103 , like the vehicles from Volkswagen, was called Variant .
- The VW Passat B1 Variant was offered exclusively for the export market as an Audi station wagon and was named Audi 80 Estate (England, South Africa) or Audi Fox Station Wagon (USA) .
- The Audi allroad quattro is not called Avant, but is based on the Audi A6 Avant.
- A station wagon-like variant of the Audi A3 and A5 is marketed as the Audi A3 and A5 Sportback, respectively. The Audi A7 too.
Concept vehicles
In 2001, Audi presented the Audi Avantissimo study , a luxury-class station wagon , at the IAA in Frankfurt . Despite the largely positive response in the specialist press, a combination model in this vehicle class has not been mass-produced so far.
