The Avasi-Gymnasium ( Hungarian Avasi Gimnázium ) is a high school in Miskolc in northeast Hungary . It is located on the Avas, a mountain that gives the school its name. The high school takes part in the Schools: Partners for the Future project .
History and establishment
The school opened in 1987, but it took 22 years for the building to be completed as originally planned. Over the years the theater room was renovated and a school library was set up. There are also classrooms for computer science and art education. In 2008 the cafeteria was renovated. With help and donations from the Federal Republic of Germany , the school was able to set up a new multimedia room for German as a foreign language and German-language specialist teaching .
The school can be reached by bus, car or bicycle.
Classes
More than 700 students study in 23 classes in the grammar school. They are taught by 65 teachers. In the bilingual class, students learn certain subjects such as history, computer science, biology or regional studies in a foreign language. There is a German-Hungarian and an English-Hungarian part in the class. Students take a bilingual exam. In the other class, which focuses on foreign language teaching, the students receive extended French or German lessons for five years.

The school has partner schools in Simmern / Hunsrück ( Herzog-Johann-Gymnasium ) , Aschaffenburg ( Karl-Theodor-von-Dalberg-Gymnasium ) and Münster . But the grammar school also has partner schools in Finland ( Tampere ) and Turkey ( Istanbul ).
