Avraham Adan ( Hebrew אברהם אדן; born as Avraham Eidelson; called "Bren"; * October 5, 1926 in Kfar Giladi ; † September 28, 2012 in Ramat Hasharon ) was an Israeli major general and author . In 1974 he was the commander of the Israeli Southern Command .

Life

Adan joined the Palmach in 1943 . During the Israeli War of Independence he was a company commander in an infantry brigade and took part in Operation Uvda as such . He raised the ink flag on the conquest of Eilat .

During the Suez Crisis, he was battalion commander with the rank of lieutenant colonel . He then became a brigade and school commander. He took part in the Six Day War as deputy commander of the armored forces until he became commander in 1969. He was then division commander.

Adan was the commander of the Israel South Command in 1974 . From 1974 to 1977 he was transferred to the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC as a military attaché .

He was one of the founders of the Kibbuze Nirim and Gvulot .
