Avdotja Ilyinichna Istomina
Avdotya Istomina Ilyinichna ( Russian Евдокия Ильинична Истомина ., Scientific transliteration Evdokia Il'inična Istomina ; born January 6, jul. / 17th January 1799 greg. In St. Petersburg ; † June 26 jul. / 8. July 1848 greg. Just there) was a ballerina in the time of the Russian Empire . She was hailed as the most important Russian dancer of the Romantic era and was one of the first to perform the lace dance . Alexander Sergejewitsch Pushkin immortalized them in the first chapter of his Eugene Onegin .
Istomina was born in Saint Petersburg in the winter of 1799. She completed her dance training with Charles-Louis Didelot at the Waganowa Ballet Academy . She died of cholera in her hometown at the age of 49 .
