The River Awe ( Scottish Gaelic Uisge Abha ) is a short river in the southwest of the Scottish Highlands . The freshwater lake Loch Awe drains through it into the saltwater fjord Loch Etive .
The river rises from a dam at the end of a deep arm of Loch Awe, which juts out laterally in a north-westerly direction in the far northeast of the loch. Along the river are the A85 roads and the Glasgow to Oban railway ; both cross it about halfway along its course. A smaller road bridge and a pedestrian bridge also cross the river.
The river flows into Loch Etive near the village of Taynuilt . At the mouth of the river is the berm for the former ferry that crossed Loch Etive.
