Axel Dahl

Axel Johan Dahl (born September 19, 1832 in Sundsholm near Gladhammar , Sweden ; † March 18, 1880 in Karlskrona , southern Sweden) was a Swedish landscape painter from the Düsseldorf school and drawing teacher.

Life

Dahl was one of three sons of the Swedish captain Baltzar Georg Dahl (1799-1861) and his wife Anna Christina Vilhelmina "Mimi" Mannerskantz (1811-1880). Through his sister Carin Charlotta Emerentia Dahl (1835-1901) he became the uncle of the preacher and writer Natanael Beskow (1865-1901).

Dahl attended the technical and craft school in Gothenburg , where he received a silver medal for modeling and drawing. From 1853 he studied at the Stockholm Art Academy . From 1854 to 1858 he was a student at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There were Karl Ferdinand Sohn , Heinrich Mücke and Christian Köhler his teachers. From 1856 to 1858 he was a member of the Malkasten artists' association .

In 1876 he got a job as a drawing teacher at the elementary high school in Karlskrona.
