Life

Old antique trade

Fridell was the son of the cabinet maker Per Johan Fridell and his wife Hanna (née Söderberg). After graduating from school, he worked as an errand boy and later worked in the mine in Falun. He went to night school on the side. It was here that he met Bertil Bull Hedlund, Hans Fredrik Johanson Norsbo and David Tägeström, who became his friends. In autumn 1913 he first attended Carl Wilhelmson's painting school in Stockholm before studying at the Stockholm Academy of Fine Arts from 1915 to 1917. There he received lessons at Axel Tallberg's eraser school . He then worked as a fashion designer and undertook study trips to Copenhagen in 1914 and 1918 and traveled via Germany to Italy until 1921. After his return, he temporarily lived in his parents' home in Falun. In 1926 he went to London for the first time. He later changed his place of residence between home, London and Paris. A progressive cancer disease ended his artistic career. In addition to landscape paintings and interiors, he made portraits, where he was partially influenced by the art of Ivar Arosenius and Olof Sager-Nelson .

From April 30, 1927 to 1933 he was married to Ingrid Vilhelmina (nee Starck, * January 26, 1903, † 1947). She was a daughter of Robert Strack and Frieda Larsson.
