Axel Gering

Axel Gering (born October 15, 1968 in Munich ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Life

After graduating from the Munich Wilhelmsgymnasium in 1987, Gering began studying Classical Archeology , Ancient History and Near Eastern Archeology at the University of Munich in the same year . In 1994 he received a Magister Artium degree there . He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Munich and received his doctorate in 1999 . In the following years he continued his research, excavation and teaching activities and in 2005 completed his habilitation thesis at the HU Berlin with Henning Wrede and Klaus Freyberger . From 2003 to 2007 he had a teaching position as a research assistant . In 2007 he received his habilitation and was appointed private lecturer. Today he works as a "special professor " at the Winckelmann Institute at HU Berlin.

Since his dissertation, the ancient Ostia , where he heads the "Ostio Forum Project", has been his main research area.

He has been a member of the Corps Bavaria Munich since his studies .
