Axel Klopprogge

Axel Klopprogge (* around 1957) is a German television producer , marketing manager, brand consultant and developer for radio and TV formats. He lives in Shanghai and Assmannshausen on the Rhine.

In the German music industry

Axel Klopprogge started his career as a producer at the age of 15 and became the developer and producer of the first (cast) German punk band Strassenjungs in the late 1970s . This is followed by productions for EMI in London's Abbey Road Studios ( Ebony : Fly Fly), then his first No. 1 hit in Austria ( Wilfried : Highdelbeeren). In 1981 he signed an exclusive eight-year contract with Sony . Klopprogge is considered a co-founder of the Neue Deutsche Welle . In 1982, Klopprogge conceptualized, wrote and composed hits such as I want fun and Small flashlight burn ' by NDW artist Markus .

In 1985 he founded his record and video studio ARTLAB in Frankfurt and produced the group TXT (No. 4 hit in Italy, Girls got a brand new toy ). He then sold his company and followed an offer from Hollywood.

Career change in the USA and China

From 1988 to 1991 Klopprogge worked as a product developer and in film and media finance, followed by his first project in China. Looking for Chinese film companies for international projects, he founded RTV China / Yerumedi in Beijing in 1993. Klopprogge also worked for the Ministry for Machinery and Electro Technology (STIP) and the Beijing Ministry of Health.

Radio and TV format development

In 1995, Axel Klopprogge started Yerumedi Media Production in Beijing and with it he became the first foreigner to receive a media production license in China. His programs for RTV China reach 120 million listeners a week. As a pioneer, he founded the first media marketing joint venture, Beijing Airspace Media Marketing, together with Music Radio Beijing.

In 2001 his second company, Shanghai Digital Standard, received the first license for interactive TV in the People's Republic of China, from which Klopprogge created video-on-demand and iPTV programs (exclusive rights for China, including Scripts Network, Canadian Learning TV, Much Music , City TV).

At the same time, he developed branded content formats for establishing brands in China: under his aegis, awareness of the BAYER brand in China grew from one to over 53 percent (“Healthy living brought to you by Bayer”). Further successful PR / branded content shows for Dove Chocolate, Henkell , the economics ministries of Bavaria and Brandenburg , Shell - Helix, China National Radio and Talk da Talk with the host of the Beijing Olympics, David Wu, followed.

In 2005, Sprite - My Show was the first casting format on Chinese television. With Yerumedi, Klopprogge was awarded the contract to form the girl band Jade from the four winners from over 50,000 applicants and to market it internationally (joint venture with UNIVERSAL / Shanghai Media Group). Just eight months later, the quartet had released in Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Malaysia and Hong Kong and was the first Chinese pop act to chart positions outside of their own country.

"I Never Give Up!"

Since November 2007, Axel Klopprogge has been developing and producing the sports TV format I Never Give Up with the former national goalkeeper Oliver Kahn as a partner. In 2009, Klopprogge, Kahn and Dr. Peter Ruppert YES! Yerumedi Entertainment & Sports as shareholders and brought the format to Chinese television as a goalkeeper casting - with great success. Since then, the format has been licensed in eight countries. Since 2011, Axel Klopprogge has been working increasingly in Germany and Europe again.
