Axel Preuss (General Manager)

Axel Preuß (* 1962 in Hamburg ) is a German dramaturge , director and theater manager .

Life

Axel Preuss grew up in Hamburg and after graduating from high school studied philosophy and modern German literature as well as art history in Hamburg and Berlin . During his studies he worked for independent theater groups and as an assistant director at the barracks of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. Guest engagements as a dramaturge and artistic assistant followed, including from 2000 to 2002 at the Rostock Volkstheater . From 2002 to 2005 Preuß was chief dramaturge at the Landestheater Tübingen (LTT) , from 2005 to 2009 acting director and deputy artistic director at the Heidelberg Theater . In addition, from 2005 to 2009 he was artistic director of the “ Heidelberger Stückemarkt ” festival . From 2010 to 2016 Preuß was chief dramaturge and deputy general director for artistic issues at the Staatstheater Braunschweig , where he also initiated and directed the “Interculture Theme Week” - a ten-day festival for diversity and cultural participation that has been held annually in spring since 2011. In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons he was acting director at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe . Since the 2018/19 season he has been the artistic director of the theater in Stuttgart .
