Ayakoromo is a village in southern Nigeria , in the Burutu district of Delta state on the banks of the Forcados River , about 500 kilometers southwest of the capital Abuja . The village is mostly inhabited by the Ogoni tribe.

Attack on Ayakoromo on December 1, 2010

The village was attacked on December 1, 2010 by government forces of the Joint Task Force who were looking for rebel leader John Togo , the leader of the Niger Delta Liberation Force (NDLF). Between nine (according to government information) and 150 villagers (according to information from human rights organizations) were killed. The Red Cross stated that there were difficulties subsequently supplying people with water, food and blankets.
