Azar Mortazavi (born 1984 in Wittlich ) is a German playwright .

Life

Azar Mortazavi is the daughter of a German and an Iranian. She studied creative writing and cultural journalism in Hildesheim from 2006 to 2012 and wrote a number of theater texts during her studies.

In 2007 she was accepted into the international funding program for young dramatists “Interplay Europe” and in 2008 she took part in the “Festival of young European Playwrights” in Utrecht . In 2009 she developed a stage version of Fjodor M. Dostojewsky's Dream of a Fool , which was performed at the Eigenreich Theater in Berlin . In 2010 she was awarded the Else Lasker Schüler Dramatist Prize for her piece death news , and it premiered in 2011 at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern . Her second piece I wish myself one was read in the first version by her at the Heidelberger Stückemarkt in 2010 . For the 1st Karlsruhe Dramatists Festival 2011 she wrote a short drama which was performed with the twenty other texts at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe . In 2011 she worked dramaturgically for the “Bon Voyage! Festival ”in Berlin.

Her play, I wish me one , premiered on December 7, 2012 by the Osnabrück Theater , became the 2013 playwright competition . Mülheim Theater Days invited.

Azar Mortazavi lives in Berlin.
