job

Initially more at home in the field of direction and dramaturgy, he switched to the writing side during his time in Berlin - as part of a phase at the University of the Arts there. Already with his first pieces, from 2000, he achieved great success and numerous prizes. After the first performances, his pieces were quickly adopted at other venues and also translated and performed in several languages. Several performances, also at renowned 'high culture' venues such as the Vienna Burgtheater, cemented his reputation as one of the advanced and upcoming young authors in the German-speaking area. In addition, he has been heading the 'wiener wortstaetten' since 2005, an intercultural author's theater project that he initiated.

Wiener Wortstaetten

Bernhard Studlar is the director of the wiener wortstaetten author's theater project , which he launched together with director Hans Escher in 2005 in Vienna. His aim is "to build an international network based on authors living in Vienna and from Eastern Europe ... over the years to establish an exchange between cultures and to establish a center for contemporary European drama." As part of this, the invited authors are accompanied through several phases over the respective duration of one year:

  • Meetings and discussions for analysis & inspiration, discussion and exchange about the written material, between the authors themselves and also with the support of Studlar and Escher
  • Several workshops for the practical examination of the written material for effectiveness and playability, in staged performance
  • At the end of the term, reading or staging for the public, as an in-house production or in cooperation with other theaters
  • In 2008 Studlar and Hans Escher were nominated for the Nestroy Theater Prize Special Prize for this project .
