Azonhon Faton (* 18th January 1957 in Porto-Novo , † 2008 ; actually Faton Sêmèdéton as Marie ) was a Nigerien director , playwright and actor .

Life

Azonhon Faton first appeared on stage in the school theater in 1966 . He tried his hand at various professions - such as a driver, mechanic, bricklayer and dock worker - and finally got a diploma as a construction electrician. He won several awards in the early 1980s for plays he wrote and performed by school theaters in Niamey and Agadez . In addition to dramas, he also wrote scripts for short films .

In 1987 Faton founded the theater ensemble Messagers du Sahel (" Messengers of the Sahel ") under his direction in Niamey , which in the 1990s was Niger's best-known private theater initiative. Unlike most of the other troops in the country, who played in the national languages of Niger for reasons of broad impact , the Messagers du Sahel used the official language of French . In addition to Niger itself, the troupe performed at pan-African festivals abroad, around 1992 in Burkina Faso . When developing the repertoire, Azonhon Faton focused on the performance of the collective. The troupe had a realistic style. Like other established ensembles in Niger such as Yazi Dogo's troops and the ORTN troops, Faton's Messagers du Sahel also produced commissioned works for national television and non-governmental organizations .

Anzonhon Faton died in 2008 of complications from an illness.
