Azza Transport was a Sudanese cargo airline based in Khartoum at the local Khartoum airport .

history

Azza Transport was founded in September 1993 and began operating in September of the same year. The owners were the Omdurman National Bank and the insurance companies Shaikan Insurances and Sheikan Insurance . The company ceased flight operations in 2013.

Destinations

It offered cargo charter flights within Africa and the Middle East ( Sharjah , United Arab Emirates ). Plans, according to which the airline wanted to fly to Europe as well, were not realized, as the airline was entered on the list of operating bans for the airspace of the European Union .

Incidents

The company recorded three serious incidents in its history, two of which were fatal:

  • On October 21, 2009, a Boeing 707 cargo plane crashed for unknown reasons after taking off from Sharjah Airport . All 6 crew members were killed in the crash. The machine with the registration number ST-AKW flew on behalf of Sudan Airways . Eyewitnesses reported a sharp right turn and a loss of parts on the machine. A surveillance camera recorded the accident. The 707 already flew for Lufthansa , Condor , Emirates and Sudan Airways as well as Ibis Air Transport.
  • On October 7, 2012, an Antonov An-12 (registration ST-ARV) with 16 soldiers and a crew of six on board the An-12 had an accident. The aircraft had engine problems en route and crashed during an attempted emergency landing. 15 people were killed in the accident.
