Azzolino Bernardino della Ciaia (also Ciaja ; born May 21, 1671 in Siena , † January 15, 1755 in Pisa ) was an Italian composer .

biography

The offspring of a noble family was a member of the Tuscan Order of St. Stephen , he received his musical training in the order's school. However, he did not serve the order as a musician.

He created works of various kinds; His harpsichord sonatas op. 4 (1727) deserve special mention , which through their sequence of movements ( Toccata - Kanzone - two dance movements) already indicate the basic form of the later piano sonata .

Della Ciaia was also active in organ building, for example in Pisa he was involved in building an organ with four manuals and more than 60 registers.
