Bärbel Löhnert (birth name: Bärbel Geißler; born September 23, 1942 in Ruhla ) is a former German athlete . Your home club was SC Frankfurt in the German Democratic Republic (GDR).
She was runner-up at the GDR championships in 1961, 1962, 1963 behind Hildrun Claus and in 1964 behind Karin Balzer , as well as GDR long jump champion in 1967 and 1968 . In addition, she won the team competition at the GDR championships in 1962 with SC Frankfurt and the individual competition in the women's all- around competition in 1967 and 1968 . At the GDR championships in the hall she reached first place in the long jump in 1964, 1967 and 1968 and second place in 1965.
In the international field, she took eighth place in the long jump at the European Athletics Championships in 1962 and second place at the European Indoor Games in 1968, which later became the European Indoor Athletics Championships . In the same year she reached the 14th place in this discipline at the Summer Olympics in Mexico City . In 1963, 1967 and 1968, she was one of the ten best long jumpers in the world with her annual bests. She reached her personal best in 1968 with 6.53 meters.
After the end of her active career, Bärbel Löhnert worked as a sports teacher. She is the mother of two sons, her younger son is the football player Timo Löhnert .
