Båven is the third largest lake in the Swedish historical province ( Landskap ) Södermanland . Since the larger lakes, Mälaren and Hjälmaren , extend into other regions, it is the largest lake that lies entirely in Södermanland.
The lake covers an area of 64.2 km² and is located in the municipalities of Flen , Gnesta and Nyköping . The water level of Båven is around 21 meters above sea level and the mean depth is 9.4 meters. The only outflow is Husbyån, which later flows into Nyköpingsån . The lake is characterized by many branches and islands.
The Båven is visited by many birds, for which several protected areas have been established here. The only place that lies directly on the lake is Sparreholm . There are also several castles and manor houses as Castle Sparreholm , Castle Vibyholm and Rockelstad Castle .
Shipping
The iron-built steamship Munter was built by Count Erik Sparre von Torpa bei Ulricehamn for the transport of passengers on the Åsunden in 1879 at Lidköpings Mekaniska Verkstad in Lidköping . The boat was sold to Åsundens Trafikförening in 1910 and brought to Yngaren . It was in use there until 1943, but remained on the lake until 1955. This was followed by a deployment at Båven as a tug for timber transport. It has been in Sparreholm since 2002 and was later renovated.
The ship is operated with steam in the renovated condition and used for touring and charter trips on the Yngaren. On May 28, 2011, the Munter was put into operation by the District President Bo Konberg.
