The Nyköpingsån is a river in Sweden south of Stockholm .
It has its origins in Lake Tisaren in the historical province of Närke . It flows in an easterly direction. It flows through the Sottern , Kolsnaren , Virus , Yngaren and Långhalsen lakes and flows into the Baltic Sea at Nyköping . The cities of Vingåker and Katrineholm lie on the course of the river. Its length including headwaters is 157 km. The catchment area of Nyköpingsån covers 3631.6 km².
The largest tributary is Husbyån , which drains Lake Båven .
In the lower reaches of Nyköpingsån, sea trout and salmon can be caught by fly fishing .
Nyköpingsån is also suitable for paddling .
