Statthaus Böcklerpark

The Böcklerpark is located in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg at the Urbanhafen between Böcklerstrasse and Prinzenstrasse.

history

The Hellweg gasworks , built in the late 1840s, was shut down in 1922. After the gas works had given up the site of the II. Municipal gas lighting institute , Heinrich Wiepking-Jürgensmann laid out a meadow park. During the Nazi dictatorship in 1936 it was named Harry Anderssen Park. The SA member Anderssen , an official of the Prussian State Bank , died in September 1926 after a politically motivated fight with KPD supporters. After the end of the war the name was changed to Urbanpark in 1945. Since 1951 it has been named after the first DGB chairman, Hans Böckler .

There are several children's playgrounds in the park and, since 1978, the Böcklerpark residential complex , which also includes the Böcklerpark town hall . Under the motto Together in Diversity , the goal is to offer leisure activities for children, young people and adults. In August 2011, the Böcklerpark town hall was on fire. The reason for this was a new electrical cable laid on the roof. Five fire brigade squadrons put out the fire in the town hall. 100 square meters of roof burned down. As a result, events such as the “ GWF Berlin Wrestling Night” wrestling show had to be canceled / postponed.

Others

In memory of Hans Böckler, a bronze bust was placed in the park . However, this was presumably stolen by metal thieves in the night from March 1st to March 2nd, 2011 .
