The Bohemian bastard service tree ( Sorbus bohemica ) is a species from the group of bastard whitebeams .

features

The Bohemian bastard service tree is a shrub that reaches heights of 2 to 4 meters. The habit resembles Sorbus graeca . The leaves measure 6 to 8 (rarely 5 to 9) × 3 to 4 centimeters and are elliptical. Its widest point is above the middle. The leaves are more or less entire, long wedge-shaped at the base and lobed in the upper area. There are 8 to 9 (rarely 10) pairs of lateral nerves. The petiole is 15 to 18 (rarely up to 20) millimeters long. The fruits are round, orange-red and have almost no lenticels. The pericarp is hard as in Sorbus torminalis . The number of chromosomes is 2n = (3x) = 51. The species reproduces apomictically .

Occurrence

The Bohemian bastard service tree occurs only on the Lovoš mountain near Lovosice in the Central Bohemian Uplands (Northern Bohemia, Czech Republic). There it grows in the xerothermal vegetation on an overgrown basalt knoll.

Systematics

The Bohemian bastard service tree was first described by Miloslav Kovanda in 1961. She is a hybrid of Sorbus torminalis and probably Sorbus danubialis .
