The Börner-Eisenacher GmbH is a medium-sized niche producer of meat products from South Lower Saxony ( "Göttinger Stracke"). Börner-Eisenacher is the largest organic salami manufacturer in Germany. The company was founded in 1884 and has been family-owned for four generations.

history

Christian Börner from Hersfeld founded a slaughterhouse in Göttingen in 1884. As early as 1890, an expanded facility was moved into the city center. The resulting urban ensemble is still called the “Börnerviertel” today. Produced primarily goose liver pâté , veal and truffle liver sausage , Fleischrotwurst and Teewurst . Even before the turn of the 20th century, the company successfully took part in national quality shows - for example the General German Exhibition for Food and Beverage in Braunschweig in 1893 . The foie gras pate was sold throughout Germany. Börner's son-in-law Edmund Heidtmann took over the management in 1912.

The second root of today's Börner-Eisenacher GmbH is the butchery Eisenacher founded in 1898 by Thuringian August Eisenacher in Göttingen . The butcher's shop became famous for the “Göttinger Mettwurst” produced in winter. In 1935 August Eisenacher handed over his business to his eldest son, Walter Eisenacher. After Walter Eisenacher's death in 1945, his then 17-year-old son Walter Eisenacher jun. the business. In 1964, Eisenacher opened a new production facility in the Göttingen industrial area.

Börner-Eisenacher GmbH was founded in 1978 when the Eisenacher company took over the Börner company. The entire production was brought together in the production facility in the Göttingen industrial area. In 1991 Walter Eisenacher jun. returned to the advisory board and handed over management to his son Frank-Walter Eisenacher. In 1991 the turnover was around 25 million marks, in 2008 with 110 employees 36 million euros, of which around 20% is accounted for by turnover with organic sausage.

Börner-Eisenacher GmbH was able to establish itself on the national food market through the ' discounter ' distribution channel . The best-known product is the Göttinger Stracke , an air-dried Mettwurst that is sold sliced ​​nationwide. The Göttinger Stracke product name has been protected throughout Europe since 2011 . Today, Börner-Eisenacher mainly produces meat products that are sold as a discount store brand (e.g. GutBio , bio-Smiley ).

In 2009, the company was recognized as just one of two producers of consumer goods as one of the 100 most innovative medium- sized companies in Germany. As an example of innovations, the development of a sausage is cited that does without nitrite curing salt , lactose , gluten and flavor enhancers . The company was able to place itself in the competition for the second time.
