The fountain in May 2012

The Bübchenbrunnen is an ornamental fountain on the corner of Beethovenallee / Denglerstraße in Bonn 's Godesberg-Villenviertel . The fountain is a listed building.

history

Today's ornamental fountain originally stood at the Cologne Werkbund exhibition in 1914, for which it was created in the same year by the sculptor Paul Seiler based on a design by the young architect Hans Schumacher (who was then working for Georg Metzendorf ). It stood there in the middle of the village square of the “New Lower Rhine Village” designed by Metzendorf. It was then acquired for the garden of a Plittersdorf Rhine villa (→ Dollendorfer Strasse 15 (Bonn) ). When the fountain got in the way of extensions there, it was handed over to the Bad Godesberg Improvement Association in 1933 . In 1937 he had it set up at its current location on the tapering green area in front of the Herz-Jesu-Kirche . The fountain is one of the few surviving buildings that were shown at the Werkbund exhibition.

description

The fountain is carved from Franconian shell limestone and was designed as a useful fountain for a rural village community when it was installed in Cologne after Metzendorf. It consists of a large, round fountain bowl, which is provided with rusticated blinding blocks and is intended to store the water. At four places in the basin there are small outdoor basins that protrude from the bulge at the foot of the fountain basin and into which water flows through a grimacing mouth .

The well stock is a round pillar that is equipped with four filigree iron pipes from which the water flows out. The stick ends with a hemisphere on which a naked little bacchant stands with a grape in his hand.
