Büchtingenstrasse (Wernigerode)

The Büchtingenstraße is one of the major cross streets in the old town of Wernigerode in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . It runs in a south-north direction from Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße to Unterengengasse.

history

The name Büchtingenstraße dates back to the 17th century and refers to the family name of a middle-class family who once lived here. Previously it was called Voigtstraße (Vogedenstrate), the southern part from the Liebfrauenkirchhof to today's Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße was called Nobben .

It is one of the parallel streets in the center of the city to the west of Marktstrasse and can be used by motor vehicles.

The writer August Wilhelm Grube was born in the house at Büchtingenstrasse 27 and is remembered by a plaque on this house today.
