The BBÖ 1670 and the BBÖ 1670.1 were electric locomotives of the Austrian Federal Railways BBÖ.

For the newly electrified route of the Salzburg-Tiroler-Bahn west of Salzburg , locomotives were needed that were more powerful than the 1570 series . However, they did not want to deviate from the tried and tested drive of this series, but the higher power required additional weight in the electrical part, which was to be offset by lightweight construction in the mechanical part. Siemens-Schuckert (electrical part) was once again the main supplier ; the mechanical part of the first 24 locomotives was manufactured by Krauss in Linz . After the closure of this Linz plant, the mechanical parts of another five were delivered by the Floridsdorf locomotive factory . The total of 29 machines were stationed in Innsbruck .

The extreme lightweight construction caused a lot of damage to both the mechanical and electrical parts, so that the vehicles had to be taken out of service. Only a corresponding reinforcement, which resulted in exceeding the required total weight by ten tons, brought an improvement. Five series 1670.1 machines delivered in 1932  were allowed to be a little heavier and differed in details from the 1670s (see table).

Despite the renovation, there were still problems. For example, machine damage repeatedly occurred when the vehicles were towed. Only a modification of the drive provided a remedy and also enabled one-man operation, as the constant monitoring of the drive's lubrication, which was previously necessary, could be dispensed with.

The German Reichsbahn called the locomotives from 1938 E 1.22 (1670) and E 22.2 (1670.1). Three 1670s and one 1670.1 were lost in World War II . From 1953 the ÖBB returned to the designation of origin. The vehicles were retired by 1983. The 1670.09 and 25 as well as the 1670.104 have been preserved and are used for nostalgic trips: 1670.09 in the Ampflwang locomotive park of the ÖGEG 1670.25 in the Strasshof heating house 1670.104 in the Bludenz train transport station
