The Federal Association of the German Aerospace Industry ( BDLI ) is an association of companies and institutions in the aerospace industry.

The association organizes the ILA in Berlin in cooperation with Messe Berlin GmbH.

The association is a member of the Federal Association of German Industry BDI. In addition, the BDLI is a member of the Aerospace and Defense Industries Association of Europe (ASD), a European umbrella organization for the interests of the aerospace and defense industries .

The organization is divided into four groups of manufacturers: Equipment / Materials, Air Transport, Defense and Security and Space travel. Representatives of these four groups of manufacturers form the Presidium and Advisory Board, which form the highest BDLI bodies. There are also technical committees and forums.

Full members are German companies dealing with aspects of aviation and space flight deal. Suppliers and equipment companies that are active in the aerospace sector can also join the federal association as full members. Companies, legal entities or natural persons who regularly transfer contributions to the BDLI can become supporting members.

history

On March 17, 1911, the Association of German Aircraft Industrialists (later the Association of German Aircraft Industrialists GmbH ) was founded. The founders were Albatros Flugzeugwerke , Aviatik GmbH, Dorner Flugzeugwerke GmbH, Flugmaschine Wright-Gesellschaft mbH, Euler -Flugmaschinenwerke, Grade -Fliegerwerke, Harlan-Flugzeugwerke and Rumpler -Flugzeugwerke AG.

From 1917 the association was a member of the War Association of the Aircraft Industry. V. , an initiative of the Air Force Inspection (IdFlieg) with 120 companies and 125,000 employees (monthly production 2,000 aircraft). In 1921 it was merged with the Association of German Motor Vehicle Industrialists to form the Association of German Air Vehicle Industrialists GmbH . The association was liquidated on September 17, 1923 and renamed the Association of German Aircraft Manufacturers on October 30, 1923 . V. newly founded. In 1927 it was again dissolved and founded as the Reich Association of the German Aviation Industry (RDLI) with a new constitution after the departure of Luft-Hansa in 1929.

During National Socialism, the association was added to Main Group II of the German economy as an independent economic group. After the Second World War, the association was renamed “Verband der Deutschen Luftfahrt e. V. ", which one year later changed into" Association for the Promotion of Aviation e. V. (VFL) ”. With the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1955 and the associated regaining of air sovereignty , the association was renamed the “Bundesverband der Deutschen Luftfahrtindustrie e. V. (BDLI) ”.

Media award for aerospace

In 2010, together with the German School of Journalism , the BDLI founded the Association for the Promotion of Technical and Scientific Journalism , which awards the German Journalism Prize for Aviation and Space Travel as a successor to the Ludwig Bölkow Journalist Prize. When it was awarded in 2013, the prize was finally renamed the Aerospace Media Prize . The award is given to contributions by non-specialist journalists who make the topic of aerospace accessible to a broad audience. The prize is awarded annually in the categories of print, radio and television and is endowed with a total of 15,000 euros, donated by the BDLI.
