BGI (genome)

BGI (formerly Beijing Genomics Institute) is an association of institutions that deal with the genome of living things. The aim of this association, originally founded on September 9, 1999 in Beijing as a genome institute, is the rapid transfer of knowledge from basic research to practical application.

There are contact points in Shenzhen (China), Cambridge near Boston (USA) and Frederiksberg (Denmark).

In 2011, the BGI became known in Germany for its rapid decoding of the DNA of the EHEC bacterium from the strain O104: H4 .
