The BMP-30 (Bulgarian: БМП-30 ) is a buoyant armored personnel carrier from a Bulgarian development. The abbreviation BMP-30 stands in Bulgarian for бойна машина на пехотата-30 , which means "Infantry 30 combat vehicle " and numerically represents the caliber of the main weapon. The BMP-30 is a significant further development in terms of firepower compared to the previous model BMP-23 .
Development history
In the mid-1970s, the People's Republic of Bulgaria acquired the license from the Soviet Union to manufacture the 122 mm 2S1 Gwosdika 122 mm self-propelled gun , which was based on the MT-LB troop transporter. The Bulgarian state-owned company Terem developed various types of military vehicles on this basis, including the BMP-30 and BMP-23 armored personnel carriers . The BMP-30 armored personnel carrier was only built in small numbers until the mid-1990s.
technology
Like the 2S1 self-propelled gun, the chassis of the BMP-30 has seven wheels on each side, while the original MT-LB troop transporter is shorter and only has six wheels. In addition, the more powerful was JAMS 238 - diesel engine installed, which the Russian engine manufacturer Jamz was delivered. However, the power was reduced to 302 hp. The tank can float without preparation, only the surge board at the bow has to be folded down to cross a water hazard. The crew consists of four men. The driver sits at the front right, in front of the drive unit. The seven-man rifle group climbs into the vehicle through two steel rear doors that open outwards and sit back to back across the direction of travel in the rear area of the BMP-30 - similar to the BMP-23. The soldiers can intervene in the battle with their firearms through shooting hatches.
Armament
The turret, which corresponds to that of the Soviet BMP-2 , is the main distinguishing feature of the BMP-23 with the built-in armament. The 30 mm automatic cannon of the type 2A42 can be used against ground and air targets and is much more powerful than the main weapon of the previous version BMP-23, which had a 23 mm MK. The weapon has two modes of fire: slow (against ground targets) and fast (against air targets). In slow mode which is cadence 200-300 rounds per minute in fast mode at 550 rounds per minute. The cartridges are fed selectively with a two-belt system, which allows switching between different types of ammunition. A 7.62 mm PKT machine gun with 2,000 rounds, parallel to the axis, serves as a secondary weapon .
To combat enemy armored vehicles is a mounted on the turret roof guided missile launcher for 9K113 bankruptcy - and 9K111 Fagot - anti-tank missile available. Reloading is done manually. In addition, MANPADS are carried in the vehicle, which must be started by crew members outside of the combat vehicle.
