successor BMW R 1200 ST

The BMW R 1150 ST is a half-faired motorcycle from the BMW brand with a two-cylinder boxer engine . It is built on the basis of the Naked Bikes R 1150 R or the Rockster and is therefore not an official BMW model. The modification is carried out with specially manufactured fairing parts from Gimbel based on the Suzuki GSF 1200 . The result is a sister model that fits into the model range between the R 1150 R and the R 1150 RS .

General

The R 1150 ST was derived from the R 1150 R model in 2001 and a further version was adapted to the Rockster in 2003 . The models are essentially identical, apart from the following technical modifications to the ST:

  • Half-shell fairing in the style of the Suzuki GSF 1200 S.
  • Adapted oil cooler mount integrated in the half-shell
  • Double headlights of the Suzuki GSF 1200 S.
  • Steering head angle approx. 58 ° (with a handlebar riser there is no need to change the steering stop)
  • Windshields of the Suzuki GSF 1200 S in four different designs
  • Optional front spoiler from Gimbel or Boxerdesign

Press

In the 07/2002 issue, " Tourenfahrer" magazine tested several fairing modifications and windows to improve the aerodynamics of the original R 1150 R model . The recommendation was given to the conversion of the Gimbel company, even if it was not the price-performance winner with the introductory price of 799 euros at the time. The performance was convincing, however, as the ST conversion brought complete relief for the arms and upper body as well as wind protection in the leg area even at 180 km / h. The point of criticism was that, despite the complex conversion, no illustrated assembly instructions were enclosed.
