The GSF 1200 Bandit is a motorcycle by the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki , which was manufactured from 1996 to 2006.
Model history
Years of construction 1995-2000
1995 (model year S) The GSF 1200 is only offered on the Japanese market in 1995 and is still throttled to 180 km / h. The GSF 1200 of the 95 model year is not yet imported to Germany by the official importer. The 95er Year is different from the later, officially imported models in rearview mirrors, oil cooler screens, polished engine covers, missing passenger - handles and easy-designed chain tensioners, which are externally fitted to the rocker.
1996 (model year T) In January the Suzuki GSF 1200 Bandit (factory name: GV75A) is launched in Germany. The engine is originally from a 1100 GSX-R and has been modified for the 1200 Bandit. The "S" version is delivered with fairing as a sports tourer and the "N" version as a naked bike .
In 1997 (model year V) the 1200 Bandit continues to be built unchanged and a variant with ABS is also offered.
1998 (model year W) nothing changes apart from the name for the ABS variant. The S version of the Bandit with ABS is now called SA.
In 1999 (model year X) the Bandit 1200 can also be ordered in brown.
2000 (model year Y) except for the color scheme, nothing is changed.
Years of construction 2001-2005
In 2001 (model year K1) the 1200 Bandit (factory designation WVA9) was significantly modified. The Bandit gets a new frame, new instruments with digital displays, new carburetors, Tokico six-piston brake calipers, a more powerful alternator and a new 20 liter tank (previously 19 liters). The steering geometry and the seat height as well as the upholstery of the seat bench have also been changed. The Bandit-S gets double headlights and a new front fairing. However, there is no longer a model with ABS. The models from 2001 onwards are given the unofficial nickname "POP" by the German community.
In 2002 (model year K2) improved ignition boxes are installed.
2003 (model year K3) other steering head bearings are installed. The light switch is no longer required and is replaced by a hazard warning switch.
2004, 2005 (model year K4 + K5) Apart from an additional catalytic converter, no noteworthy changes are made. For the first time, two-tone special models 1200SZ and 1200Z are also available.
Years of construction from 2006
2006 (model year K6) (factory designation WVCB) Introduction of a new, visually heavily modified version of the 1200 Bandit. The K6 is an intermediate model with the old air / oil-cooled engine and the look of the water-cooled models from 2007. In Germany there were almost only bandits with ABS. Models without ABS are only the first German models delivered or gray imports. The height of the front part of the bench can now be changed. The Bandit is also more manageable thanks to a tighter suspension setup. There is no fuel tap. The speedometer and fuel gauge are now digital, the rev counter analog. The clear glass double headlights are arranged one above the other. The K6 is unofficially given the nickname "NEO"
successor
2007 From this model year, the GSF 1200 is replaced by the Bandit 1250 . The model change includes the move away from the air / oil-cooled engine with carburettor to the water-cooled engine with injection system and a 6-speed gearbox. This change had become necessary due to stricter emissions regulations and regulations on noise development. The new engine also consumes an average of 1 liter less fuel per 100 km.
Unofficial naming
Under bandit drivers, the models are also referred to as follows:
- "Kult" - model year 1996 to 2000
- "Pop" - model year 2001 to 2005
- "Neo" - model year 2006
- "Evo" - model year 2007 until today
These names come from votes that are carried out for each new model on the Internet.
