history

In March 1949, the Broadcasting Council of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation decided to broadcast commercials on the radio. Three months later, Bayerische Werbefunk GmbH started its work as a 100% subsidiary of the BR. In 1956 Bayerische Werbefernsehen GmbH was founded as a wholly owned subsidiary of BR. On November 3, 1956, a TV commercial with the title Between half and eight was broadcast for the first time . The BR was the first radio company in the FRG to broadcast television advertising. In May 1972, Bayerische Werbefunk GmbH and Bayerische Werbefernsehen GmbH merged to form Bayerische Rundfunkwerbung GmbH. In 2010 Bayerische Rundfunkwerbung GmbH was renamed BRmedia GmbH. In February 2013, BRmedia installed the DIGITAL / Development New Business department, whose business field includes the exploitation of programs and films through to the marketing of own services and content for Bavarian broadcasting. In October 2013, the BRreisen business segment was linked to BRmedia, and in 2016 the service office Klangkörper was integrated, within which the marketing activities of BR-Klangkörper are bundled.

Core business

The core business of BRmedia consists in the complete marketing of the advertising times in the advertising-leading BR radio programs Bayern 1 , Bayern 2 , Bayern 3 , BR-Klassik , and B5 aktuell . The areas of creative media and event sponsoring are also embedded in this to support marketing.

BRmedia is also commissioned with the procurement and coordination of sponsorship contracts in TV and radio: on the one hand on behalf of ARD for the TV service Das Erste , on the other hand on behalf of BR for the BR radio programs Bayern 1, Bayern 3 and B5 aktuell as well as the Bavarian television .

Business areas

The central areas of program exploitation (licenses, BR-KLASSIK label, BRmedia VERLAG, digital exploitation) and program binding (BRreisen, BRticket, Telekolleg MultiMedial, BR sound body marketing & sales) are under the umbrella of BRmedia Service GmbH (100% subsidiary of BRmedia GmbH) bundled. On January 1, 2019, the BRshop was spun off from BRmedia by switching to a purely online-based shop system. BRmedia transferred the operation of the BRshop under license to Bogner Records GmbH & Co. KG.
Other BRmedia offshoots are BR-Senderstandort-Vermietungsagentur GmbH (marketing of the shared use of BR transmitter locations by third parties) and BRmedia Personal GmbH (personnel service for BR and its affiliated companies). The total net turnover of BRmedia in 2016 was 68.1 million euros.
