The SV Motor Altenburg e. V. is a sports club from the East Thuringian city of Altenburg . Most famous is its football section. In addition, until 2012 judo , bowling , table tennis and gymnastics were operated in the club. The club colors are black and yellow.
history
BSG Motor Altenburg
Eintracht 08 Altenburg, founded in 1908, can be regarded as the predecessor club in the sense of the traditional line. On January 1, 1946, like all sports clubs, this was banned and dissolved. In 1946 the Sportgemeinschaft (SG) Altenburg Nord was founded, which three years later, on October 1, 1949, was merged with the SG Altenburg Süd and Altenburg Ost to form the ZSG Altenburg. Their footballers were runner-up in Thuringia in 1949 and qualified for the newly created highest GDR football class, the GDR Oberliga . The sports club played there until 1952, from 1951 as the company sports club (BSG) Stahl, from May 24, 1952 as Motor Altenburg. There followed many years in the GDR league and in the district league. During this time, too, Altenburg produced five future national players (see below ).

From the 1990s
After the political change in 1989, the company sports community could be converted back into a club, the SV 1990 Altenburg, whose footballers played in the Landesliga Sachsen (5th division) from 1990/91 . After the redistribution of the states Altenburg moved to Thuringia and so the SV played in the Thuringian regional league until relegation in 2000 . In 1999 the name was changed to SV Motor Altenburg.
In 2001 the team was relegated to the East Thuringia District League. In 2006 Motor Altenburg won the OTFB Cup (East Thuringia Cup) and made it into the national class. In addition, the team won the East Thuringia championship against SV Stahl Unterwellenborn . In the 2007/2008 season, the team led by coach Frank Weidner reached 2nd place in the regional class East, which entitled them to be relegated to the regional league Thuringia . The first leg was lost 2-0 at home against SV Borsch (2nd in the national class West), so a 2-1 win at SV Borsch was not enough for promotion. In 2009 he was directly promoted to the Thuringian League. From the 2013/14 season, SV Motor and SV Lok formed the Motor / Lok Altenburg syndicate, which ended again after the 2015/2016 season. With the 14th place in the table in the 2016/17 season, SV Motor was relegated from the Thuringian League to the state class.
After an 8th place in the 2017/18 season, the club withdrew the 1st men's team from the national class before the start of the 2018/2019 season and only took part in the game operations with the former 2nd team in the 1st district class East Thuringia Season A. , the lowest league in East Thuringia as of this season. The team reached 1st place.

Stadion
The home of SV Motor is the Skatbank-Arena (formerly Waldstadion). In 1957, on the occasion of the 3rd district sports and culture festival, it was inaugurated as the Lenin Stadium . It has a capacity of 25,000 spectators and is therefore the largest stadium in Thuringia . In 2009 it was renamed the Skatbank Arena. It is equipped with a large electronic scoreboard, a grandstand with bucket seats (approx. 300 seats), a toilet island, a modern team building (built in 2006), VIP parking spaces behind the grandstand and a parking lot for the guest team in front of the team building. The total area comprises two grass pitches (L / W: 105 m × 69 m) and, since December 2009, an artificial turf pitch suitable for the upper league (L / W: 90 m × 60 m).
