Heinz Gerber (born November 7, 1921 ) is a former German football player who was active from 1950 to 1952 in Altenburg for the ZSG and BSG Stahl in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

For their second season in the top football league of the GDR (1950/51, from the end of 1950 referred to as the GDR Oberliga), the Central Sports Community Altenburg had the 28-year-old midfielder Heinz Gerber in the squad for the first time. He was used by player- coach Herbert Klemig from the start in the league games, in 34 games Gerber was called up 32 times. In the match of the 20th matchday BSG Stahl Altenburg (renamed in January 1951) - VfB Pankow (5: 1) he scored the only goal of his five years in higher-class GDR football. Gerber was also a regular in the Altenburg team in his second league season. 1951/52 had to be played 36 point games, in which Gerber, now used in the defense, was missing only five times.

At the end of the season, the BSG Stahl had to relegate to the second-rate GDR league . Gerber remained in the squad of the team that started in the 1952/53 league season under the new name BSG Motor. Both in this season and in 1953/54 Gerber was a model of consistency, because only in his second GDR league season he missed a point game. In the summer of 1954 he was 32 years old and he ended his career as a competitive athlete. Within five years he had made 64 league games (one goal) and 47 GDR league games (goalless).
