Herbert Klemig (born March 29, 1918 ; † November 8, 2000 ) was a German soccer player, soccer coach and lecturer in coach education.

Athletic career

Herbert Klemig first appeared in football throughout Germany in 1938. With Riesaer SV he played its two preliminary round matches in the Tschammerpokal . After the end of the Second World War , he played in Altenburg , where he was Thuringian runner- up with SG Altenburg-Nord in 1949. The team had thus qualified for the East Zone Football League (later GDR Oberliga ). In the 1949/50 season, the Altenburger went under the name ZSG Altenburg with Klemig as a player- coach . He used himself both as a midfielder and as a striker in all 26 league games. In the East German league season 1950/51 he played 31 of the 34 league games and scored five goals. From the 7th matchday to the end of the season he was represented by Heinz Kapitän as a coach. In January 1951 the central sports community was restructured into the company sports community (BSG) Stahl. For the 1951/52 season, Klemig returned as a player-coach and was consistently in midfield. He was only missing in one encounter and scored one goal, but could not prevent relegation to the second-rate GDR league . The GDR league season 1952/53 began Klemig at the age of 34 and played only nine league games in the team now playing as BSG Motor Altenburg. After the BSG had missed promotion under his coaching activity, Klemig resigned as a player and coach in the summer of 1953. During his time in GDR football, he made 92 league appearances (six goals) and nine games (without a goal) as a player. He also played a game for the Thuringian state selection.

In the 1950s he was the assistant coach of the GDR national team and then worked until his retirement in 1983 in coach training at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig .
