Hans-Georg Kiupel (1971)

Hans-Georg Kiupel (born November 12, 1934 in Tilsit ; † July 3, 2018 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German football player who was active in the GDR .

Athletic career

The son of a family of miners began his football career with the local company sports association (BSG) Motor Altenburg , which played in the top league of the GDR football league in the early 1950s . When Kiupel left the BSG in 1954, however, it was already second class. He was one of the hopeful football talents who were brought together in the football section of the SC DHfK Leipzig in 1954 in order to form a high-performance football club in the long term. However, the project came to an end after six months, the football section of the SC DHfK was dissolved again due to unsuccessfulness and the players of the two teams playing in the second-rate GDR league were distributed to other sports clubs in February 1955. Like most players, Kiupel was transferred to ZSK Vorwärts Berlin , the new focus club of the Army Sports Association . There the 20-year-old soon found a regular position as a defender and by the end of his playing career in 1967 made 199 league appearances in which he scored an astonishing 20 goals as a defender. In addition, he was used in 12 games of his team in the European Cup. In 1958 , 1960 , 1962 , 1965 and 1966 , Kiupel was GDR soccer champion with Vorwärts Berlin.

Kiupel played his only A international match at the encounter between Morocco and GDR (2-0) on December 10, 1961 in Casablanca, where he was used as a stopper, as in his club team. Since this position was long-term occupied by Werner Heine (Dynamo Berlin), there were no further assignments. There are still five games left in the B national team.

Two years after the end of his active senior league career, Kiupel - like his father a member of the SED - was appointed coach of the league team at Vorwärts Berlin at the beginning of the 1970/71 season. After this reached seventh and fifth place respectively in 1971 and 1972, he lost his post and was transferred to the Army Sports Association Vorwärts Cottbus , where he worked as a trainer until 1974. Then Kiupel switched to the management of the army sports association.
