The BTW Bünde (officially: Bünder Turnverein Westfalia von 1862 eV ) is a sports club from Bünde in the Herford district . The men's table tennis team played in the 2nd Bundesliga North from 1999 to 2001. In 1952 they awarded promotion to the then highest German league, the Oberliga. The women's gymnastics team competed in the 3rd Bundesliga for one year in 2012.

history

The association was founded in 1862. In addition to table tennis and gymnastics, the club also offers badminton , basketball , handball , judo , karate , athletics and volleyball . The Handball Division, together with the handball players from Thin SC the syndicate SG Bünde-thin . In addition, there are offers in the areas of fitness & health , dancing , fitness studio , children , rehabilitation , sports in the after-school care center and tumbling .

Table tennis

The table tennis department was founded in 1946. In order to increase the playing strength, the table tennis players of the Westfalia and those of the local rival SG Bünde 08 formed the table tennis game community Bünde from 1948 . Three years later the syndicate was dissolved again. In 1952, the Bünder faced promotion to the first-class league at the time, but lost the decider against TTV Metelen 4-5. In 1973 the Bünder rose to the association league, but lost their top performer Dieter Ristig to the TTC Mennighüffen . While Westfalia was immediately relegated, Ristig became a Bundesliga player at VfL Osnabrück . This was followed by a sporty descent into the 1st district class.

It only started to improve again in the 1990s. After three ascents in a row, the Bünder reached the league in 1994. Three years later, the team rose as champions in the Regionalliga West. Two years later they were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, where the team led by Belarusian Evgueni Shetinin was champions with 29: 3 points ahead of Hertha BSC . For financial reasons, the club decided not to be promoted to the Bundesliga . After the main sponsor withdrew, the team had to be withdrawn. In the 2015/16 season, the club competes with two teams in the Herford district league.

do gymnastics

The women's gymnastics team rose after the championship in the Regionalliga Nord in 2011 in the 2011/12 season in the 3rd Bundesliga. As a table sixth followed the direct relegation. The club has been competing in the Regionalliga West since 2016.

Judo

Jonas Rabbatah became German champion over 30 +100 kg, took third place at the European championships and third place in the veteran world championship over 100 kg. The men's team fights in a fighting community with PSV Herford as a judo fighting community Bünde-Herford .

karate

The karate department was founded in 1989 by Ralf Grote, Alexander Kröger, Holger Piecha and Carsten Schoßmeier. In June 2019, the department had around 130 members. The Japanese style Shotokan is taught . The department is a member of the German Karate Association . The karate department calls itself the Karate Dojo BTW Bünde . There are several popular sports programs for children, women and men.

In 2001, 2011 and 2017 athletes from the BTW Bünde won a total of four gold medals at the state championships in North Rhine-Westphalia. Jonas Kröger from BTW Bünde also fought in the Karate Bundesliga, which was newly founded by the German Karate Association in March 2020. The Bünder started for the Ostwestfalen-Lippe team.

On average once a year, the karate department organizes national, public courses in the club's own sports halls, such as a 24-hour karate in 2018 and a Bünder Karate Festival with 20 trainers from North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria in 2019 . In 2017, she also hosted the KDNW state championships for children and pupils in the gymnasium Gymnasium am Markt and in 2018 the KDNW state championships for young people, juniors and U21s in the Siegfried Moning sports hall in Bünde .

Handball

The origins of the handball department go back to 1930. In the beginning, handball players were mostly recruited from gymnasts of the club, with gymnastics in winter and grass handball in summer. The department is currently headed by the managing director Roger Erdbrügger. There is a syndicate with Dünner SC under the name SG Bünde-Dünne . The SG is a member of the handball district Bielefeld-Herford and thus integrated into the handball association of Westphalia. In the 2018/19 season, the first men's team played in the state league and had briefly signed former Bundesliga players Arne Niemeyer and Jan-Fiete Buschmann . Dennis Eichhorn is currently the team's coach. There are two other men's teams active in the district league. In the youth field, the male A and B youth played several times in a circle, sometimes in the top division.
