The BVP M-80 is an all-terrain, chain-driven, amphibious armored personnel carrier with NBC protection made in Yugoslavia .

description

The M-80 is often referred to as a Yugoslav copy of the Russian armored personnel carrier BMP-1 , but the M-80 has five pairs of rollers, the BMP-1 six pairs of rollers and also has other distinguishing features in the external shape.

At the end of the 1970s, the Yugoslav Armed Forces called for a successor to the outdated M-60 armored personnel carrier. Negotiations with the French company Hispano-Suiza , which at the same time developed the AMX-10P armored personnel carrier , led to cooperation. For this reason, the AMX-10P and the M-80 are externally similar, except for the fact that the M-80 again only had five pairs of rollers.
The improved version M-80A was equipped with a new and more powerful engine. The latest version, M-80A1, has a 30 mm automatic cannon from Hispano-Suiza.
