The Baden-Württembergische Bank (BW-Bank) is a German credit institute belonging to the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW) and headquartered in Stuttgart .

history

Share over 350 guilders of the Württemberg central bank dated December 22, 1871
Karlsruhe, in the former Veit L. Homburger bank

The bank goes back to the Württembergische central bank founded in 1871 . In 1935, after the banknote privilege ended , it changed its name to Württembergische Bank . In 1977 it merged with the former Baden central bank, the Badische Bank founded in 1870 , and the Handelsbank Heilbronn to form Baden-Württembergische Bank AG.

At the instigation of the Baden-Württemberg state government under Erwin Teufel , the public-law Landesbank Baden-Württemberg took over the private BW-Bank in 2001. The existing shareholders were then squeezed out of the company and BW-Bank was fully integrated into LBBW as a dependent institution (dependent institution under public law ) from August 1, 2005. The balance sheet total rose in the years 2006 to 2009 from 41.4 to 45.9 billion euros .

The number of 200 branches in Baden-Württemberg was reduced to 150. There were around 4,000 employees in the new structure. The business activity was expanded to the whole of Germany.

In connection with the Wulff affair , the bank fell into twilight because of a low-interest loan that was granted to the then Prime Minister of Lower Saxony in 2010. This also had negative consequences for the further course of business; individual customers criticized the bank.

In 2016, plans to further reduce the number of branches and downsizing were announced. In the private customer business, there were the equivalent of 1,400 full-time positions, 700 of them in Stuttgart.

Business activity

As an operationally independent unit within the LBBW Group, BW-Bank is responsible for the entire private customer business, as well as most of the corporate customer business, with a focus on Baden-Württemberg. In addition to classic financing, the product portfolio also includes payment transactions and asset management. In the area of the state capital Stuttgart, BW-Bank is also legally obliged to act as a savings bank . In the rest of the state of Baden-Württemberg, she continues to act as the legal successor to the Württembergische Landessparkasse. The customer canvassing also takes place over the Internet. BW-Bank offers various credit cards such as B. VISA on a prepaid basis.
