Baatarsuren Schuudertsetseg ( Mongolian Баатарсүрэн Шүүдэрцэцэг ; born as Baatarsuren Togtochbajar on January 18, 1971 in Ulaanbaatar ) is a Mongolian journalist, author, filmmaker and humanist.

Vita

Schuudertsetseg attended elementary school No. 1, and then Public School No. 5 Mustafa Kemal Ataturk high school graduated in 1989. She then studied journalism at Russia's Irkutsk State University and then as a postgraduate at the Mongolian National University in Ulaanbaatar, where she completed her studies in 1995 with a master's degree in journalism.

In 1995 she began her career as a journalist in the legal department of the state newspaper Ардын эрх ( Ardyn erch ; People's right). She became the spokesperson for the Democratic Party under the government of Prime Minister Mendsaichaniin Enchsaichan in 1997 and a year later became the director of the "Anons" journalism center. 1999–2000 she was the managing director of the Mongolian Association of Journalists and in 2001 she became editor-in-chief of the Алтан шар сонин ( Altan Sharonin ; The Golden Orange Newspaper). During her time at Алтан шар сонин , she took the stage name Shuudertsetseg on the recommendation of her husband.

Humanitarian

In addition to her film and writing career, Schuudertsetseg is noted for her humanitarian efforts. In 2008, the Organizing Committee of Amnesty International , Mongolia named her Human Rights Activist of the Year for her contributions to gender equality and human rights. She is a board member of the Mongolian women's fund "MONES" and is a member of the Amnesty International women's group. She participated in the women's national peace movement , which campaigns for the rights of women in Mongolia and the legal equality of the sexes . She is an active supporter of the Mongolian National Center Against Violence, which helps young girls and women who have been victims of violence. Women's rights were also the central theme of 180 Degrees , a TV drama she filmed with her production company Shuuder Productions . On May 3, 2008, she gave a lecture on the "Renaissance of Feminism in Mongolia" at a series of lectures supported by Amnesty International at the Mongolian State University. She also contributed to the 11Eleven project , a documentation of the promotion of intercultural understanding in an increasingly globalized world.

Private life

Schuudertsetseg married B. Boldchujag (Б. Болдхуяг) in 1991. They have three daughters together, Amina, Anchilmaa and Anima.

Awards

  • 1996, “Journalist of the Year” for her series of articles in the daily Ардын эрх (People's Law) on children's rights.
  • 2007, Selected Book , Award for her novel Шүрэн бугуйвч (Coral Bracelet).
  • 2008, for their CD Шүүдэрцэг .
  • 2010, Mongolian National Book Prize for Literature for the novel Домогт Ану хатан (The Fabled Queen Anu).
