Baby blues (comic)

Baby Blues is an American comic strip series produced by Rick Kirkman and Jerry Scott since January 7, 1990 . It can be found in many German-language daily newspapers (including Die Rheinpfalz , Gießener Anzeiger , Grenz-Echo , Kurier , Märkische Oderzeitung , Passauer Neue Presse , Rhein-Zeitung , tz , Waiblinger Kreiszeitung ). In the years 2000 to 2002 a cartoon series of the same name was produced.

Characters

The cast consists mainly of three families (details from the US original are in italics ):

Main family Meier

  • Barbara "Babs" Meier ( Wanda Wizowski-MacPherson ): The mother. She used to have a job, but now has to stay at home to look after the children. She is quite frustrated and jealous of other mothers because of her “mother's burden” because she believes they do better parenting and housework.
  • Paul Meier ( Darryl MacPherson ): The father. Works as a manager and can be recognized by his rather big nose. He is often met at the door by his children. At first he just thinks it's nice, until it turns out that they've screwed up something in the cases.
  • Susi Meier ( Zoe Jennifer MacPherson ): The eldest daughter, born on January 7, 1996 ( January 7, 1990 ). The series begins with her birth. She's a pretty annoying little girl. She prefers to tease her little brother Timmi and complain about her mother's food.
  • Timotheus "Timmi" Meier ( Hamish MacPherson ): The son, born on April 29th ( April 29th 1995 ). He is fascinated by trucks and knows all about them. He often tells his mother when Sister Suzy annoys him. He also likes to make his sister riot, even though he doesn't seem to have done anything himself.
  • Anna Meier ( Wren MacPherson ): The youngest daughter, born on October 26th. She is still a baby (at the moment).

White family

The neighbor family: The mother named Bini is often the object of Babs' jealousy because she seems to be perfect in all things (body, way of life). Paul and Mr. White are more or less good friends. The Whites have three children: Benny and the twins Baldwin Arthur and Balduin Artur.

Black family

A family friend of the Meier family: Yolanda Black is Babs' best friend and can always listen to their problems. The two fathers are good friends too.

Other recurring characters

  • Wizowski relationship : Barbara's parents (father: Hugo) and her sister Monika, who often come to visit.
  • Meier relationship : Paul's parents (mother: Elke). The father spoils his grandchildren with sweets, which his wife does not like to see. These two also come by now and then.
  • Kiki : The Meier family's babysitter. She has six siblings and started changing diapers when she was three years old.
  • Mr. Daus : Susi's primary school teacher. He has to deal with Susi's repartee.

Volumes published in German

The volumes were initially published by Achterbahn Verlag , and are currently being published by Lappan Verlag , which has been part of Carlsen Verlag GmbH since 2015 . Usually a new edition appears every year; the older volumes will be reprinted by Lappan.

Trick series

In 2000, the eight-part series of animated films Baby Blues was made in the USA , and two years later a second series consisting of four episodes was added. The original voices were u. a. Voiced by Mike O'Malley (Darryl MacPherson / Paul Meier) and Julia Sweeney (Wanda Wizowski-MacPherson / Barbara "Babs" Meier).
