Julia Sweeney (born October 10, 1959 in Spokane , Washington ) is an American actress and comedian. As a civil rights activist, she advocates atheism .

Life

Sweeney discovered her acting talent early on, but initially studied economics. She became a member of the comedian group The Groundlings . She became known through her participation in Saturday Night Live . Sweeney was first raised Catholic. Over time, however, she began to see the contradictions of religion. In her work she deals very critically with the dangers and ideologies of religions. She is on the board of directors for the Secular Coalition for America . She received the Richard Dawkins Award and the Humanist Pioneer Prize of the American Humanist Association for her commitment . Sweeney lives in Hollywood.

Her program Letting Go of God was released on DVD in 1998.
