The choir was founded in September 1978 by Klaus Uwe Ludwig , church music director since 1977. It unites around 80 singers from Wiesbaden and the Rheingau to form a choir community.

In addition to works by his namesake Johann Sebastian Bach and oratorios , his repertoire also includes lesser-known works, some of which have been recorded on CD.

Concert tours have taken the choir to Danzig , Paris , the USA and England . With the "Royal Tunbridge Wells Choral Society" in Wiesbaden's twin city Royal Tunbridge Wells (Great Britain) there has been a close partnership since 1994 with joint concerts in both cities.

From November 2008 to December 2019 Jörg Endebrock led the choir. In 2020 Niklas Sikner (* 1989) took over the management. The choir is financially supported by a “Circle of Friends”.
