Badis is the name of one of two genera of the family of blue perch . The representatives of this genus are small freshwater fish with a body length of less than 7 cm.

distribution

Badis species have so far been identified in Pakistan , India , Myanmar , Bangladesh and Nepal . The animals live in well-structured regions on the edge of larger bodies of water. As far as they were found in areas with strong currents, they live in the current shadow.

description

The animals differ from the other genus of the blue perch - Dario - in that the pelvic fins of the males do not reach the base of the first anal fin ray, the caudal fin is rounded and not truncated and the lateral line has scales provided with pores.

Reproduction

The previously known species belonging to the Badis genus are cave breeders in which the male guards the clutch and brood. The more solitary animals come together at spawning time when the male defines his territory. In contrast to Dario , the males take part in brood care.
